You'll be one of Agora's core programmers. Working closely with the rest of us, you'll join a small programming team and be involved in the key development projects and scaling of the Agora architecture across the UK and the US. You'll be joining at the critical—and very exciting—moment of international expansion.
The backend of Agora is in Django, which is written using Python and is used by websites like Instagram, Disqus, Pinterest and Rdio. On the frontend, we use a combination of React.js, jQuery and Bootstrap for rendering. React.js is right at the cutting-edge of client-side browser-based applications. It was open-sourced by Facebook last year and we have been using it since the very start.
- Necessary skills
Background in Python (or similar scripting language) and experience with Django is preferential although not a deal-breaker if you are an excellent programmer and self-motivated to quickly learn the languages. Some background—or at least a strong interest—in web development and unix-system architecture. Experience with any of AWS, Postgres, Memcached and Celery a plus.
Ability to work 20+ hours per week. (No one on Agora's team works full-time—we have other jobs or studies—but this is a startup so we work long nights and weekends.)
Sense of humor. Willingness to wear an occasional moustache to a team meeting.
Equity proportional to your hour commitment and a lead role in a rapidly growing start-up.
